The future Safari Lens?

For years we've been struggling to recommend the perfect lens for our photo safari participants. Nikon's 80-400 is sharp but slow and old and Canon's 100-400 is unpopular due to its push-pull operation and many samples are quite soft at the long end. It's not a speed daemon either. But after handling a Sigma 120-400 at PMA I'm hoping we've found an alternative that will work for everyone. I'm getting one next week and will be shooting with it and letting participants shoot with it in Texas & Alaska so I'll be able to report back with a full field-test.

Introducing GPS Geo-Tagging Tools from Red Hen

Originally designed for the military, Red Hen Field Tools is now available to consumers.

The Field Tools is a user-friendly desktop application that uses a wizard to walk you through the steps needed to match your digital photos with the correct track log data from your GPS unit.

You can then use Field Tools' Map Viewer or Google Earth to determine WHERE your photos were taken along your path of travel on a map.

Spring!

Death Valley, California, is spectacular in spring.  I spent several days shooting there earlier this month and found it nothing short of magical.  Great light, stunning vistas and no crowds.  Interested in shooting with me in March, 2010?  I'm putting a trip together, so pencil it in on your 2010 calendar and email safaris[at]cardinalphoto.com if you're interested.

Thinking about joining us this year?  We still have room on our Texas and Alaska photo safaris.  If you're watching the economy like we are, consider that covers employer termination.

We've for our 2009 Southeast Asia Photo Safari.
