When people think of the grand old names of Japanese optics companies Sigma is often not the first one to come to mind but far from being a start up they are celebrating their 50th anniversary. As part of the celebration they've created a special online video and we're pleased they've included several of Lorrie's and my photographs of ourselves and others using Sigma gear. Ever since I first saw an iPad I thought what a perfect companion it’d be to a desktop version of Photoshop. A convenient input output device with its own processor it may not have the touch resolution of the much more expensive and special purpose Cintiq from Wacom but it is certainly much more command and with multi-touch offers some unique advantages. As of the recent crop of Android tablets the same can be said for the Android platform.


Nikon Launches Much Anticipated Nikon D5100 Mid-range D-SLR with 16MP, 1080p Video, under $800

Nikon today introduced yet another groundbreaking digital SLR, showing that despite the troubles in Japan it is still able to crank out new products. The Nikon D5100 follows up on the with a slightly lower cost version that keeps the same 16MP resolution and 1080p video of its bigger brother. The D5100 also adds a new swing out LCD like that found on many video cameras making it easier to shoot at unusual angles and a “night vision” mode also like that often found on dedicated video cameras. Features like in camera effects and face tracking make sure the new model will please consumers looking for maximum help from their camera. “Downgrades” from the to justify the lower price include a lower end 11-point AF system and 4fps speed.
