South Texas Rio Grande Valley Images 2009
Images from our just completed and very successful 2009 photo safari to capture images of the colorful woodland birds of the Texas Rio Grande Valley. For the third year in a row the trip sold out and everyone had a great time. Stay tuned for our formal 2010 announcement, but you can get a head start by signing up on our events page.

Hummingbirds
So how hard do you consider photographing hummingbirds?
Barbara--Good hummer photos
Barbara--Good hummer photos certainly require being in the right place at the right time, and some patience, but they don't have to require a lot of special gear (many hummingbird photo workshops get pretty deep in to huge multiple light setups, but those are definitely not necessary).
For example, while we were scouting the Texas Hill Country this June for next year's April Photo Safari my daughter sat outside the kitchen where we were talking business and with "just" her D2X and a Sigma 120-400 lens got many great images of Black-chinned & Ruby Hummingbirds. We did use a couple simple tricks (published earlier in my blog) and of course the light had to be right.
If you want to join us for either of our Texas trips next year we'll make a special point of getting you some good instruction on hummer photography and helping you capture some great images. Regards--David
