Welcome to the new nikondigital.org forums!

Welcome to our updated forums. We've replaced our standalone forum software (in place since 2000!) with forums tightly integrated with the Drupal content management system we have been using for the main website for the last 2-1/2 years.

The benefits of this include a single login for all users to the website (for comments and posts) and the forums (for posts and replies). In addition, your login can be connected to your Facebook account (or in fact you can login with your Facebook account), and you can "Like" or Google "Plus 1" articles and posts.

Search is also integrated, so you can search forum posts and website articles with a single query. The new platform is also much better supported and will enable us to add additional features going forward. From our perspective it is one less code base to license and support (the site is and always will be free, and we get limited cost recovery from our sponsor and shopping links, so we're always looking to keep expenses under control).

Transistion issues:

  • The forums aren't as quick as I'd like, so we'll be working on performance.
  • You should have received a new password, which you can change. Or you can use the reset password option, or just start a new account, or use your Facebook account.
  • Drupal doesn't seem to notice that a thread is active if the only posts recently have been replies, so some active threads have floated down in the topic lists. If you let me know I can fix those one at a time, or feel free to start a new thread (or if you post to the thread once you find it, it should come back to the top)
  • Private message and other account info is consolidated in a section that appears on the  top right of the web page once you've logged in.
  • Please do post in this thread with issues or comments, or use the contact form to get to us. There are lots of possible enhancements we can look at providing, so the key is which ones will be useful to our loyal members!

Regards--David

Thanks to everyone who has logged in to the new forums, and supplied us with feedback. We're working through the issues one at a time. One is the replies to topics are treated as "comments" e.g. plain text. We're working to get bolding, and li

David and all, I forgot to ask, "how do I insert an image(.jpg file) into a comment?" I can't seem to find the command for that when posting. Thanks

Dan--Thanks for the kind words about the site update. We'll be working on improving performance over the coming weeks as well.

I think you've hit on something with the image insertion. You can link to other images or flickr images, etc., but it looks like we need to enable the image embed function. We'll see if we can get that done in the next few days.--David

We've just moved a a larger server, which in addition to being faster (hopefully folks have noticed:-)) is semi-virtual, so we can scale up if needed essentially transparently in a few hours. Enjoy!--David

Hey, David! Since I don't want to post randomly I decided to ask around here for some threads regarding what should a client look into when it comes to a professional photographer. Is there such a section around here? Btw, nice work with the forums, your layout is great!

Queeny--Thanks for the kind words on the forums. I'm not sure we have an exact forum for your question about what clients look for in a photographer, but it is certainly touched on in many threads. I think for a start it depends a lot on the type of client. Brides have a very different perspective than, for example, corporate CEOs.--David
