The spectral tarsier, the world's smallest primate, is entirely nocturnal and hunts grasshoppers in the dark of night by using its large, sensitive eyes and ears. Scientists believe tarsiers were once common around the world including in North America, but now these cute-looking little animals are found only on a few islands of Indonesia. Photographing them involves a long trek to one of the few trees where they are known to live--one family per tree--and then out-waiting the sunset bugs to try to capture them as they leap from branch to branch on their way down to hunt for the night (Sulawesi, Indonesia).
