In the continuing barrage of new digital cameras, Canon has fired the most recent shot with the new 60D mid-range consumer/prosumer D-SLR--a solid upgrade to the popular 50D. With a stunning 18MP sensor firing away at over 5 frames per second the Canon certainly doesn't have entry level specs. One nice twist (if you'll pardon the pun) is the addition of a fully adjustable LCD, typically only found on video cameras and some point and shoots.

Nikon Updates Pro D-SLR Firmware with fixes, large CF card support & new Goodies

Nikon has just rolled out a very useful firmware update for most of their Pro D-SLR line (except the D3S which presumably already has these improvemnts). The new firmware includes support for CF cards up to 64GB, improved Auto White Balance, some focus options and my favorite which sets the time from a GPS clock. Insure Your Flight Shots by Following a Plan

It's easy to get excited about great, close-up flight images. But not as easy to duplicate them. One mistake many photographers make is to zoom in as far as they can right away and desparately try to focus on the bird--often against a mottled background. They would probably be better off just taking a deep breath and making a plan to work their way into the shooting opportunity.

Nikon Introduces D3000--Full featured 10MP D-SLR with built-in coaching, 11-point AF & lens for under $600

Nikon has launched yet another ground-breaking entry level D-SLR. The headline feature of the camera is the new "Guide" mode which provides shooting suggestions for particular situations, but the one I'm most excited by is ...the 11-point AF system. Entry level shooters are often crippled by the 3 or 5 point AF systems so that the shooters who need the most help getting their subject out of the center of the frame get the least. Now they can benefit from more easy composition options. Nikon has also reduced shutter lag from previous entry level models which will be another big plus.
